Design of Dual Drainage Systems Using SWMM
In the absence of a proper calibration procedure, traditional methods of applying the Storm Water Management Model, (SWMM), to dual stormwater drainage systems, results in considerable underprediction of system flow and overprediction of pollutant mass flux. These errors can be of considerable importance when designing stormwater management facilities. A methodology is presented which consists of manipulation of selected SWMM input parameters in order to calibrate a dual drainage system response to a singular system reference. Until such time as calibration against reliable field data is possible, such a methodology constitutes a reasonable first step toward improving SWMM modeling accuracy of dual drainage systems.
