Methodology for Rebar Constructibility Improvement
Problems of rebar constructibility are frequently experienced during the construction phase. Some of these problems are discovered after the reinforced concrete (RC) element has already been cast, while others may never be discovered (e.g., bars that had to be displaced, or even cut, to enable the installation of drainage pipes, ducts, etc.), resulting-in a weaker RC element. The paper describes a rebar constructibility model, which was developed in an object-oriented graphic environment. The model has two components, the Diagnosis Module that automatically analyses the RC element(s) in search for potential rebar-related constructibility problems, and the Correction Module that offers solutions to the diagnosed problems and implements them. This paper focuses on the Diagnosis Module, which was implemented, at this stage, in a concept-proving prototype.
