The relation of the Ohio River and its tributaries to transportation in the United States may mean either of two things: First, how the one compares with the other as to amount, importance, expedition of service, economy, or some other characteristic; and, second, how the two are connected with or related to each other-the nature and extent of their interdependence and interaction. The first is largely a matter of statistics. The salient facts in regard to transportation on the Ohio River are contained in Tables 10 and 11.
