The line described in this paper, and illustrated in the accompanying maps and profiles, is one located by the writer, as consulting and afterward chief engineer, from the Port of Vera Cruz to the City of Mexico, via the City of Jalapa, being a parallel line to the existing Mexican Railwav—the first railway built in Mexico—in the sense of connecting the same termini, although following a very different route and of a very different character.
