Effect of Helix Angle on Flow in Corrugated Pipes
New measurements of the Darcy friction factor in helical corrugated pipes are combined with earlier measurements to show general trends. These indicate that for a given pipe diameter, friction factor decreases as helix angle decreases and that for a given helix angle, friction factor decreases as pipe diameter increases. Some analyses of velocity profile measurements are also presented. The idea is advanced that the decrease in friction factor is associated with reduced turbulence because of the rotating flow component.
