Microtunneling Challenge in Las Vegas
City of Las Vegas has undertaken the construction of US95-RANCHO interceptor sewer using trenchless methods. The project required installation of 6,270 LF of 42 inches and 4,580 LF of 60 inches sanitary sewer by Microtunneling method under North Rancho Drive, one of the busiest arterial in Las Vegas. The front-end engineering and design was performed by PBS&J Consulting of Henderson, Nevada and Tampa, Florida. The basic considerations for the trenchless project were: (1) Cover depth (over 50 feet in certain areas); (2) US Highway 95 traffic restrictions based on Nevada Department of Transportation requirements; (3) Groundwater and soils conditions; (4) Aggressive construction time-frame.
