Micro-Mechanical Modeling of Site Liquefaction and Remediation Through Cementation
A coupled continuum-discrete hydromechanical model was utilized to analyze the response of saturated deposits of loose and cemented granular soils. The fluid motion was idealized using averaged Navier-Stokes equations and the discrete element method was employed to model the solid particles. Parallel bonds were used to model the inter-particle cementations. The conducted numerical simulations were consistent with experimental observations and revealed valuable information on the mechanisms of liquefaction and failure of weakly cemented soil deposits.
