Seminar: Design of reinforced concrete structures subjected to external loads and restrained deformations
The design of steel reinforcement in RC structures, under the combined effect of external forces and restrained shrinkage is a complex matter, which has been under discussion at an international level. The relevance of discussing the best practices, in this area of knowledge, is widely recognized in view of the insufficiencies in the regulatory framework applicable to the design of minimum reinforcement and cracking control for an adequate service life. Aiming at disseminating recent advances in this domain, a Seminar was organized at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), on 20 September 2019, with the theme ‘Design of reinforced concrete structures subjected to external loads and restrained deformations’. The Seminar was intended for practitioners (design and construction), as well as students and academics. This Seminar presented the most relevant results reached upon completion of the FCT Project IntegraCrete – “A comprehensive multiphysics and multiscale approach to the combined effects of applied loads and thermal/shrinkage deformations in reinforced concrete structures”, developed in cooperation by FEUP and the School of Engineering of the University of Minho. The Seminar also comprehended one lecture by Prof. Tetsuya Ishida, from the University of Tokyo. It ended with a very participated debate for exchange of points of view among practitioners involved in the design of structural concrete. This e-book contains all the presentations shown during the Seminar.
