REEEM-D2.3_Methodology for linking technology innovation to energy system models
This report aims at synopsising a novel methodology to link technology innovation to energy system models. The methodology leads to the development and investigation of pathways for the transition of the EU energy system based on different technological advancements. This methodology has been developed (and will be further improved) under the scope of the EUfunded REEEM project (http://www.reeem.org/). The analysis builds upon the expertise in the field of technology innovation assessment coupled with the experience in energy systems and macroeconomic modelling. The main challenge pertaining to this attempt is the quantification of the qualitative information derived from the innovation assessment platform and subsequently the process of feeding this data into the aforementioned models. What makes it particularly demanding is the fact that the models and the assessment tools have different level of analysis. In turn, the such interlinked innovation assessment platform and energy system models lead to the development and investigation of pathways for the transition of the energy system of the EU based on different technological advancements.
