Drawing and architectural analysis of San Ildefonso’s Baths in Seville (1542) ; Dibujo y análisis arquitectónico del baño sevillano de San Ildefonso (1542)
This paper deals with the first hypotheses of elevations and of the architectural analysis of San Ildefonso’s Baths on the basis of unpublished data offered by the Book of written descriptive records (apeos) of 1542 in the Chapter on Seville Cathedral. Our own transformation methodology has been applied to this hitherto largely unknown book in order to attain and encompass graphic representation from the literary description. After giving a brief history of the Baths, the objective is to ascertain its location, by drawing hypothetical floor plans and elevations and analysing its typology, dimensions, spaces, and building elements. This research has shown that it was one of the most important bathing complexes in the historical centre of Seville, at least in the 13th Century, although it later became obsolete and was demolished in the 18th Century. ; Este artículo aborda el dibujo y el análisis arquitectónico y constructivo del baño de San Ildefonso, partiendo de los datos inéditos que ofrece el apeo localizado en el libro de inmuebles de 1542 del Cabildo Catedral de Sevilla, del que poco se sabía hasta la fecha y aplicando una metodología propia de traducción de la descripción literaria al medio gráfico. Tras ofrecer una breve historia del baño en cuestión, se ha pretendido aclarar su localización, dibujar hipótesis de plantas y alzados, así como analizar su tipología, superficies, espacios y elementos constructivos. Este estudio ha desvelado que era por su extensión uno de los más importantes conjuntos edificatorios dedicado al baño desde, al menos, el siglo XIII y situado en el corazón histórico de Sevilla antes de que cayera en desuso y fuera derribado en el siglo XVIII.
