Arbetet tar sin utgångspunkt i resan och blicken som faller på de förbipasserande landskapen, vari det undersöker landskapet som representation i samband med identitet och det cirkulära sammanhang där det fysiska landskapet faktiskt formas av vår bild av det. Frågeställningen om hur vi upplever förbipasserande landskap utforskas genom en teoribas och en självobserverande fallstudie bestående av film, bild och skrivna reflektioner från en resa i Sydeuropa från sommaren 2013. Med utgångspunkt i konstteoretiska, turismvetenskapliga, kulturgeografiska, landskapsteoretiska och filosofiska texter utforskas landskapet som representation, identitet och verkligheten så som vi uppfattar den. Susan Sontags essäverk On photography (1977) används som en röd tråd i arbetet och får representera tankarna kring representationens definition. I en ansats att luckra upp gränssnittet mellan ett konstnärligt och vetenskapligt förfarande är fallstudien en självstudie där jag i reflektionerna undersöker mig själv som studieobjekt och hur jag ser och har sett på de förbipasserande landskapen under resan, samt hur min upplevelse förhåller sig till den socialt konstruerade turisten. Slutsatser från arbetet kan sammanfattas i att vår blick är socialt konstruerad, att det förbipasserande landskapet kondenseras till selektiva bilder som hänger samman med själva det fysiska landskapets uttryck samt att jag själv i högsta grad trots medvetenhet hänfaller åt en kulturellt formad turistroll i min dokumentation. ; This work takes its point of departure in the journey and the glance that falls on the passing landscapes. It examines landscape as representation in connection to identity and the circular reference where the physical landscape actually is shaped by our image of it. The quarry of how we experience passing landscapes is explored through a theory base and a self observing case study consisting of film, images and written reflections from a journey in southern Europe the summer of 2013. Deriving from art theory, tourism theory, cultural geography, landscape theory and philosophy, landscape as representation, identity and reality as we perceive it is examined. The essay work On Photography (1977) by Susan Sontag is used as a recurring line of argument and represents thoughts on the definition of representation. With the approach to loosen up the interface between artistic and scientific methods, the case study is a study of self where I in the reflections examine myself as a study object and how I see and have seen the passing landscapes during the journey, as well as how my experience is connected to the socially constructed tourist. Conclusions from the thesis can be that our glance is socially constructed, that the passing landscape is condensed to selective images connected with the expression of the physical landscape itself and that I, myself, to a large degree despite awareness fall into a culturally shaped tourist role in my documentation.
