Building automation system - Insolution Oy : Lighting and security system
Building automation has always been an essential subfield of automation in general and its existence can be found in many different types of buildings, e.g., mainstream industrial buildings, commercial buildings, government buildings, residential buildings, etc. The scope of this thesis project was on office building automation system, and the final goal is to deliver a building management system for InSolution company that could offer high reliability, expandability, and cost-effectiveness. This system could control the lighting and the security system of the company’s office. To realize the goal, theory regarding building automation system, programmable logic controllers, EnOcean technology, RFID and TCP/IP were thoroughly studied. Additional documentation and manuals were gathered, and a training session was organized to aid the development process. Meetings and discussions between the commissioner and the author during the development period were also conducted to ensure the process was on the right track. The end product of this project is a control system comprising of Beckhoff PLC as the controller, RFID devices for the security control application, as well as EnOcean technology for the wireless sensor and the lighting control solution. A native user-interface running on PLC runtime was developed to allow users to both configure the sensors network and the security info, and easily save the configuration via an XML data server. Additionally, a TCP/IP connection between the PLC and the InSpector cloud server was established, providing data monitoring and analysis of the office building on the InSpector website. Conclusively, the thesis project was a great success having achieved all the goals and preliminary requirements of the commissioner, furthermore, future development of the project was also planned and will be initiated around mid-February.
