Immersive bodily drawing. An emerging practice in architectural design
The introduction of digital technologies has profoundly altered architectural practice, transforming our relationship with physicality. Architectural design is moving away from the traditional physical interaction between the builder and the buildings. Despite the importance of manual and intuitive drawing in the design process, information and communication technologies (ICT), since the mid-20th century, have integrated physical and digital realities, transforming this relationship. Immersive technologies offer a new perspective where immediacy and immersion ensure a more realistic interaction with projects. This digital transition raises crucial questions about the importance of bodily movement and intuitive gesture in architectural design. The research focuses on the following question: what is the role of bodily movement and intuitive gesture in architectural design, and which interfaces take this into account? More specifically, this research examines whether ICT partially replaces the human experience in architectural design or acts as an amplifier of designers’ sensations and creative capacity.
