Post occupancy in commons: open spaces designed by Gaudí in the Colònia and Guell Parks
The cultural and natural resources at two of Gaudí's sites are at risk. Fragmentation of collective space prevents access to free, open space. Contemporary changes in Antoni Gaudí's town planning and urban designs negatively affect the use of public space. In 1878 Gaudí built in Mataró, near Barcelona, a utopian workers’ cooperative, new town. New urban regulation on commons displaces people; neighbors move out and cannot continue to live together in subsidized housing in the Colonia Gu¨ell (1889) and around the Gu¨ell Park (1900), two UNESCO historic heritage sites. The collaborative dimension of the housing and the urban question must be fatherly posed to the meaning of the visual arts and/or urban form iconography. (Engels, 1872). In this study social stratification has been measured not only through socio-economic status of people using this kind of open space but namely through cultural experience parameters.
