Street Vending in Urban Street Corridor in Medan, Indonesia: Potency or Problem?
This paper is aimed to investigate the role of street vending to support public life in the urban street. The study took place in three shop houses corridors in Medan, i.e., Asia, Kapten Muslim, and Ring Road Corridor. The research used the descriptive-exploratory method that collected qualitative and quantitative data. The exploration found that the street vending spots became the only place for social interaction, but not so intensive. The study pointed out to accommodate the street vending in a particular space of the corridor, in line with the re-arrangement of the whole area of the street to be a more human-friendly public space. Keywords: street vending; urban street; public life; MedaneISSN: 2398-4287© 2019.
