ReFreeDrive - Deliverable 8.2: LCA technologies analyses
This report aims to show the findings extracted for a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) performed on the motors developed within ReFreeDrive project. In this LCA, an estimation of the potential environmental impacts related to the manufacturing process for each ReFreeDrive e-motor (75 kW and 200 kW) has been performed, taking into account the different technologies employed during the project: induction machines, pure synchronous reluctance machines, and permanent magnet (ferrite) assisted synchronous reluctance machines. The LCA provides an accurate comparison of environmental impacts among the different developments within ReFreeDrive project, but also in comparison with a representative motor type for electric vehicles widely employed in the automotive industry, the NdFeB permanent magnet machine. This LCA analysis has been carried out according to ISO 14040:2006 and ISO 14044:2006 standards, following a "Cradle-to-Gate" approach.
