Waskasoo Park - The conservation of a unique natural resource
In June 1981, a new Provincial Urban Program for the cities of Red Deer, Grande Praire, Lethhridge, Lloydminster and Medicine Hat in the Alberta Province, Canada, was announced. The purpose of this program is to provide meaningful open spaces to ensure easy access to the natural environment, as well as the development of these areas in order to promote sustained and unforeseen use. " In order to achieve this goal, $ 28 million was donated by the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund to Red Deer for the development of a large urban park to serve the city and its surrounding areas. The funds are available for planning, land acquisition and capital development. From the outset, the Province stressed the importance of heplaning the park in a comprehensive way. "Alberta Recreation and Parks" consequently requires a master plan for the park, drafted and approved in detail, before funds have been set aside for land acquisition and development. The master plan had to indicate the exact boundaries of the park, and guidelines for its development and use. The preparation of a master plan for the intended Waskasoo Park was undertaken by the City Planning Division of the Regional Planning Commission on behalf of Red Deer.
