Il pensiero di Ruskin nella storia del restauro architettonico: quale eredità per il XXI secolo?
The contribution intends to focus on influence of Ruskinian thought in the culture of restoration discipline in Italy. From the introduction of his thinking in the field of Italian technical culture, we will consider the connection points with the thought of some so-called 'restoration fathers' (Boito, Giovannoni etc.) and the ways in which his critical fortune emerged in the restoration stories published since the mid-twentieth century. Any attention will also be given to those traces of Ruskin's influence (and relations with the SPAB) with respect to restoration issues, found in episodic debates that took place during interventions on monuments. That make it possible to recognize in Italy the almost constant presence of a line of thought inspired by Ruskin’s vision on monuments conservation, although decidedly minoritarian and karst. Finally, we will consider the aspects of Ruskin's legacy, especially in relation to the concepts of memory, time, and their variations in the history of restoration to arrive at the problems that the discipline is currently facing today, in the globalized world.
