Patterns of Availability of Housing and Household Amenities in Odisha
Housing is one of the three basic needs of human life and an important indicator of social welfare. But, still, even after more than 60 years of Independence, majority of Indian people have been deprived of standard housing without access to basic minimum facilities of drinking water, sanitation and public hygiene etc., which required urgent attention.The study reveals that, barring a few exceptions, the level of availability of housing and household amenities is high in the north-central and south-eastern coastal districts of the state of Odisha, while, it is moderate to low level in the northern, north-western and south-western parts of the state. In other words, as we move away from the coast, towards, the interior part of the state, the accessibility in housing and household amenities showing a decreasing pattern in the state.
