Eco-Efficiency of 35 sectors of Sweden: A Stochastic Frontier Analysis
This paper analyzed the eco-efficiency of 35 sectors in Sweden by using an outputoriented Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) model. In the setup of the model, the total output of each sector was used as a good output, whereas Carbon dioxide (𝐶𝑂2), Nitrogen oxide (𝑁𝑂𝑥) and Carbon monoxide (CO) emissions were used as a bad output. The results indicate that in the case of a time-invariant model, the eco-efficiency scores of some sectors have increased, while in the case of a time-variant model, the eco-efficiency of the same sectors shows different results, so it is impossible to say from the findings whether bad output has decreased while good output has grown or whether both bad and good output have increased. It is not possible to identify whether there is an absolute or relative decoupling of emission and production, which would be a logical and significant extension of the investigation.
