Relevance of the problem and aim of the work: Today, due to improving bonding systems and composites, it is crucial to evaluate not only which type of intracanal post is more appropriate, but also whether the post itself is required. Therefore, the work aims to ascertain in which case dentists, working in Kaunas city, choose a glass fiber post (GFP) and in which case restoration without an intracanal post, and compare the advantages and disadvantages of these methods. Material and methods: A questionnaire survey was carried out from December 3rd 2019 to March 1st 2020. The study subjects were dentists working in Kaunas city. Methodology – anonymous questionnaire. The study involved 100 dentists whose data were statistically analyzed and compared using IBM SPSS Statistics and Microsoft Office Excel (2010). Results: 94% of dentists choose a GFP and 58% - restoration without intracanal post. The GFP is significantly (p<0,05) more often used when 1 or 2 walls of the tooth are left or when the height of the ferrule is 1,5 – 2 mm or more, and post-free restorations - when 50% or more of the tooth tissue remains. Most common failure with GFP – adhesive failure, and without intracanal post - fracture in the coronary part. Conclusions: The GFP is used by dentists when 1 or 2 crown walls are left, or ferules height is 1,5 mm or more. The method of restoration without intracanal post is applied when the tooth tissue is left 50% or more. Significantly common failure with GFP is adhesive failure and without intracanal post - fracture in the coronary part. The main factors determining the choice of methods are the amount of remaining tissue of the tooth and patient‘s financial capabilities.
