Building Information Modeling and Internet of Thing for supporting Energy Management in Digital twin
Technological improvements enhance energy management in the built environment these days. One of these state-of-the-art technologies is the digital twin (DT), that is currently a trend in different sectors and industries. DT is a digital model of a product or building that updates via the real-time data derived from IoT (Internet of Things) sensors. The real-time data integrates with machine learning tools in digital twins. This cooperation enables monitoring and analyzing the process for management goals. This thesis attempts to find the relationship of IoT devices and Building Information Modeling (BIM) with the digital twin to improve energy management in buildings. IoT can be hired to enhance energy efficiency, develop the share of renewable energy, and optimize energy consumption by users. This thesis reviews the existing literature on the digital twin to outline a clear vision of the digital twin’s architecture and its working process. Later, the thesis discusses BIM usage for energy management and the journey from BIM to BEM (building energy model) and BEMS (building energy management system). Furthermore, the application of IoT, in general, and in the context of energy management, is explained. Keywords: Energy management, Digital twin, Internet of things, Building information modeling
