ARCHITECTURE OF CASTLES, PALACES, AND WALLS OF KHOREZM V-IX CENTURIES
This study explores the architecture of Khorezm's castles, palaces, and defensive walls from the 5th to 9th centuries. As a region with a rich cultural and historical heritage, Khorezm's architectural remains offer critical insights into ancient urban planning and defence strategies. Despite extensive archaeological studies, a comprehensive analysis of these structures' architectural typology, construction techniques, and their role within socio-political contexts remains underexplored. The research employs a multidisciplinary methodology, combining archaeological excavation data, historical cartography, and comparative analysis with contemporaneous regional architecture. This approach provides a holistic understanding of the architectural elements and their evolution over time. Key findings reveal that Khorezm's castles and palaces were strategically designed to integrate urban centres with robust defensive systems. Massive mud-brick walls with intricate gateways and bastions highlight advanced engineering adapted to the region's arid climate. Palatial complexes demonstrate a fusion of functional and ceremonial spaces, reflecting the governance and cultural identity of the era. The results contribute to broader discussions on Central Asian architectural practices, emphasising Khorezm's role as a cultural crossroads. These findings have implications for the preservation of ancient sites and offer valuable lessons for modern sustainable architecture in arid zones. This study addresses critical gaps in the understanding of Khorezm's architectural history, fostering a deeper appreciation of its legacy and its influence on regional architectural developments in Central Asia. Further research is encouraged to explore the socio-economic factors shaping these architectural achievements.
