Assessment of Contract Administration Practices in Ethiopian Road Sector Consulting Firms
Practices on contract administration in Ethiopian road sector consulting firms’ are assessed by taking into consideration the three key variables that are, planning, monitoring & inspection of project deliverables. On the understanding of the research objective; challenges in terms of contract administration are discovered from distributed questionnaires to the selected consultants, contractors, employers, and stakeholders. In addition, review of available literature and comparison was made between the Ethiopian practice and international standard. A descriptive research design has been employed where both qualitative and quantitative research approaches were used in the study. A Purposive sampling technique has applied on all members of the contract administration and construction supervision department. Findings indicated that the causes for poor contract administration are attributed to poor supplier selection, lack of key project stakeholder involvement, and poor contract execution. Accordingly, the research recommended on the careful selection of consultants and contractors, on project situation and status involvement of stakeholders by bringing iconic people who originated or who use the appropriate practices together, on the execution of projects with professional and international standard, and also in realizing the greatest impacts of contract administration in road sector construction in safeguarding countries economic and social adversity.
