Confinement Effect on a Rectangular Reinforced Concrete Short Column with a Various Means of Confining Materials
This paper presents the experimental work which was carried out on a conventional rectangular short column and a confined column with a Ferro cement wall panel. The experiments were carried out on a column of size 150x230x500 mm with and without confining reinforcement and compressive load carrying capacity, failure pattern, behaviour and ductility were observed. Experimental results show that an increase in the peak load carrying capacity of the columns, improved the ductility of the columns and column behaviour is ductile type failure. The overall performance of the columns confined to the fibrocement wall panel is enhanced. The peak load value was increased by up to 70% as compared with the conventional columns.
