Influence of Steel Fibres on the Shear Strength of Concrete
Considerable research has been conducted on the shear strength of Fibre Based Concrete, but, the debate as to the effect of major variables on the cracking and ultimate shear strength has yet to be unequivocally established. In the present research, an experimental analysis was performed on a series of reinforced concrete fibre beams loaded in shear.Variables studied include fibre content and tensile reinforcement ratio. It was observed that there is substantial increase in cracking and ultimate shear strength of concrete with the increase in volume fraction of fibres. Moreover ductile behavior was noted in fibre based beams during testing. The beam elements with tensile reinforcement ratio of 1% which failed in shear; exhibited pure moment failure at a fibre content of 1 %. Nonetheless, the Fibre based beams which failed in Flexure and Flexure-Shear mode, did exhibit sufficient ductility
