Thermal Comfort Resilience in Traditional Architecture Housing in Kampong Laweyan Surakarta
The development of Traditional Architecture is keenly felt by those who care about the cultural potential of the archipelago. However, it is necessary to realize the extent to which this development can answer existing climate problems. Extreme changes in natural conditions make most people look for a ‘tragic’ way out, to obtain comfortable habitation. The past Traditional Architecture provides naturally climate-responsive solutions. This research aims to provide evidence of the richness of local culture regarding the thermal comfort of traditional houses in the case of houses in Laweyan Surakarta. The research method was carried out by observing several types of houses, and then measuring air temperature, air humidity, and air velocity. To complete the data, interviews were also conducted. The results of measurements, observations, and interviews show that there is a tendency for residents to rearrange the interior, resulting in a climate-responsive concept for traditional buildings today. The design of the house is maintained because it provides comfort, but there are several innovations in the roof, walls, door linking dwelling units, and addition of exterior vegetation to regulate the climate.
