Landslides and damage to buildings as a result of intense rainfall in Krupanj

In Serbia, intense rainfall caused flooding and landslides in May 2014. Krupanj is one of the municipalities that had been most affected by natural disasters. The largest amounts of precipitation were in period of 14-16. May. The floods have led to soil erosion and destabilization due to saturation and under cuttingthe foot of the slope. The landslides activated mostly in Paleozoic schists. These landslides classified as superficial, shallow and deep. In Krupanj area, 26 objects have been destroyed due to landslides and 69 due to flooding. Total number of destroyed or damage objects is 389. Estimated damage in housing sector is measured in millions of euros.
