Pathways to understand the fortified heritage of Northern Sardinia (12th-15th centuries). Architecture, materials and masonry technique
This paper is part of a debate on historical construction techniques, an important research field in conservation and restoration. In particular, research is focused on the study of historical masonry techniques employed in the period between the 12th and 15th centuries, concerning the fortified architectures of Northern Sardinia. It aims at analysis, material characterization and chronological interpretation in order to define a local chronological abacus. The methodology adopted is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach supported by archaeometrical analysis, in order to highlight the constructive, formal, dimensional and material peculiarities of masonries, identifying valid historical time markers. The research aims to analyze historical masonry to define a regional atlas of traditional building techniques, which could be a main base for the recognition and enhancement of historic and architectural heritage.
