Fire resistance of “high-tech plastics”
The mechanical properties, thermal insulation, durability and the production technology make Fibre Reinforced Polyester Composites an interesting material to use as a façade cladding system or as unitized sandwich panels. Before the FRPC material became readily available for large façades, technical aspects had to be investigated and solutions had to be found for fire resistance/reaction to fire, aesthetic properties such as colour fastness, durability and strength calculations. This paper concentrates on the development of a composite material, especially in the form of sandwich panels as a unitized façade system, to meet certain requirements of “Fire resistance” and “Reaction to fire” according to the relevant European standards.
