The article, structured as a general overview of separate periods, presents the role that agriculture had after World War II in countryside development in the European Union and Slovenia. In conclusion synthesised principles are given, respect of which could maintain the central position of agriculture in countryside development in Slovenia, even after accession to the European Union.
