This book examines the habitat in the Alpine environment, using the canton of Valais as a basis. The author, through the meaning of words, their uses and evolutions, highlights the transformations of the production mode of the alpine habitat. From an architecture in the Alps to an alpine architecture, he dives the reader into a committed and critical narrative. He contrasts capitalism and rural societies and exposes their similarities. The first colonization of the mountains by the bourgeoisie, the scholarly surveys and the stereotypes of mass society have shaped a polymorphous and total mental representation of the mountain habitat. The author, supported by graphic documents, proposes to the reader an overall and discursive view to detect harmful and beneficials effects of this slow hidden “ransformation”.
