This paper presents a review of the main physico-chemical mechanisms responsible for heavy metals retention in solids. From this, various heavy metals stabilization methods for contaminated soils, as well as stabilization of industrial wastes using binder will be introduced. The particular case of mine tailings will be also addressed.
