Flexible pavement 30 in. thick, consisting of 17 in. stone subbase, 4 in. stone base, 6 in. asphalt base course and 3 in. asphalt surface, was used for major areas of Huntsville, Ala, airport runway ends; some apron and other areas are 12 in. of portland cement concrete on 10 in. of limestone; separate facilities for private aircraft are all flexible type pavement with total thickness of 24 in.; subbase and base were compacted to 90% of optimum modified density and to 95% under pavements; each course of flexible pavement was placed in two lifts; asphalt content was 4 to 6% in base course, and 5 to 7% for surface course; concrete sections required 5.3 sacks of cement per cu yd.
