Slope failures in foliated rocks, Butte County, California
Slope failures discussed occurred during relocation of Highway 40A and Western Pacific Railroad around proposed Oroville Dam and Reservoir; relocations are routed along edge of Sacramento Valley and through rugged foothills of Sierra Nevada, where 8 1/2 mi of relocations pass through metamorphic rock of Calaveras group; most slope failures occurred in rock type called phyllite, which has been tightly compressed and intensely folded during metamorphism.
