Performance of asbestos-asphalt pavement surface courses with high asphalt contents
Performance of 8 asbestos asphalt pavements and adjacent standard pavements is evaluated through core analyses, surface texture, photographs, water permeability, and skid resistance tests; with asphalt content increased 50% or more above standard optimum, pavements containing asbestos fibers have remained stable under heavy traffic; test pavements with high asphalt contents showed superior resistance to incipient raveling; simple mix design criteria are established.
