Action guides for radioactive effluents from PRTR
Operational guides developed to prevent unwarranted levels of radioactive contamination in area surrounding Hanford's Plutonium Test Reactor, include automatic closure of valves associated with containment vessel, prompt manual shutdown using normal procedures, and for abnormal concentrations of radionuclides in effluents that should not be allowed to persist; guides were derived from predictions of characteristics of contaminants which would be present in case of accident, from knowledge of how effluents would become dispersed in atmosphere and Columbia River and ultimately reach people living in vicinity.
