Results of hydraulic model study show relative importance of certain geometric factors, initial discharge, and closure speed on hydraulic downpull on high-head leaf gate used for emergency closure of powerhouse intake; downpull data for top and bottom beams and 3 discharge ratings are generalized for use in design of similar gates.
