Characteristics of backwater curve
Profiles of over 40 Ml curves in rectangular channels are examined; ranges of variables covered are n, from 0.012 to 0.50; breadth-to-depth ratio, 2, 10, and infinity, and bed slope, 10-3 to 10-6; effects of variation of n and channel bed gradient on profile form are examined; nondimensional plots of profiles for given channel geometries are found to rank according to normal flow Froude numbers; maximum surface displacement and profile length, expressed in nondimensional form, are found to be functions of Froude number.
