Description of scope and content of Engineers Joint Council Engineering Research Committee Report, with particular reference to its implications for civil engineering; areas of importance will include incorporation of quantitative techniques of economic, and special analysis into engineering planning; development of methodology for design of data-collecting systems for control of environment, and technique of applying science through systematic cost-benefit evaluation of specific scientific knowledge, automation of many design procedures, and radical revision of classical design methods to take into account possibilities of modern information technology.
