Effect of preconsolidation on settlements
By theoretical investigation and by settlement analysis and observations on large oil tank, it is shown that ratio between settlements along periphery and in center of uniformly loaded area can vary within wide range, depending on degree of preconsolidation of subsoil; for normally consolidated clay ratio ranges between 0.6 and 0.7, and for extremely sensitive, overconsolidated clay, it may be 0.1, or smaller.
