Deep-well foundations for Gowthami Bridge
Gowthami prestressed concrete road bridge, Andhra Pradesh State, India, consists of 48 spans of 160 ft each in length; in order to have bridge piers rest on foundations of coarse sand and gravel, dumbbell-shaped wells 30 ft long and 15 1/2 ft wide, with 2 dredge holes of 9 1/2 ft diam were sunk to depth of 117 ft; well steining was laid in stages of 6 ft each; 4 methods of cant rectification were employed; after experiencing flood, no damage or settlement of wells was observed.
