Of various steps in systems approach to design, creation of initial structural model is considered in particular; technical or economic criteria are proposed as basis for selection of models; resulting models include flat plate with tendons curved in plan, encased external tendons draped below slab, tendons draped from floor to floor, and thin membrane shells; fifth model is based on precasting and on repetition of elements and operations.
