Protecting libraries against fire and water
Library fires and test fire indicate necessity of fireproof buildings and tight shelving for libraries; with tight shelving, fire spread is less and charring, rather than total combustion, just as with stacked timber will occur; water damage from pressure hoses is often greater than fire itself; it is recommended that libraries be fitted with hose lines no greater than 1 1/2 in. with fog shutoff nozzles; fog should be used at close range in pinpoint attack against fire.
