Following large-scale landslide, with heavy damage downstream in upper reaches of Vajont Dam in Italy in 1961, landslide problem in reservoirs has become object of public attention; in Japan, landslides have occurred at power and flood-control dams, with considerable damage to banks of storage reservoirs at geologically weak spots such as fault zones, talus or secondary deposits; paper cites examples and introduces some of preventive countermeasures implemented.
