Influence of separation planes on shear strength of rock masses
Shear strength of rock masses determined by field tests is usually given as average value for total area of shear plane regardless of separation planes; as shear strength is substantially influenced by jointing solution is given which makes it possible to calculate shear strength separatly for massive rock and for particular sets of separation planes as well as for contact surface between rock and concrete; it can be concluded that predominant contribution to shear strength is given by resistance of undisturbed rock whereas shear strength on divisional planes is often negligible; application of method is illustrated with some examples.
