Review of small basin runoff prediction methods
Available methods of predicting storm runoff from small water sheds and factors which limit their use and predictive accuracy are reviewed in treatment designed to clarify basic issues for practicing civil engineers without specialized training in hydrology; methods can be broadly divided according to their basic data requirements, one group being essentially based on runoff records, other on records of rainfall; principal limitations encountered in attempting to apply methods from either category over extensive geographical areas arise from regional climatic differences, differences in basin characteristics, availability of basic data, and questions of statistical significance.
