Unique arena with one of world's largest cable-supported roofs is major structure in Oakland-Alameda County, Calif, Coliseum Complex; designed for basketball, ice hockey, circuses and similar large gatherings, building, 420 ft in diam, will seat 11,000 to 15,000; concrete X-columns support concrete compression ring; all columns are cast-in place; cables span from this to steel tension ring, 45 ft in diam, at center; radial ribs of precast concrete are carried on 96 galvanized bridge strands of 2 3/16-in. diam to support roof and penthouse; adjacent open stadium will accommodate 50,000 to 53, 000 for baseball and football.
