Inelastic deformation of rock under hemispherical drill bit
Study was made of behavior of rocks at initial state of crater formation that results from stresses created under drill bit to determine which mechanical properties of rock are important in rock fragmentation by drilling; strengths of rock were considered from Mohr-Coulomb criterion from which surface of failure was constructed; inelastic behavior of some rock types was observed under low-velocity impact of hemispherical bit and under static indentation with similar bit.
