Benkelman beam -- Auxiliary instrument of maintenance engineer
Aim of this paper is to demonstrate how deflections measured by Benkelman beam can assist maintenance engineer in evaluating structural condition of pavements in terms of required maintenance; this paper describes methods of measuring deflection using Benkelman beam, analyzes disadvantages of methods used on WASHO Road Test, and presents method used by Canadian Good Roads Assn, which should be standardized and adopted in Brazil; discussion of modern methods currently used to design and plan pavement overlays, and description of types of data which must be obtained in Brazil.
